The Doubters Series -Discussion 2:Burdens of Guilt Part 2

The want to break free is as ever-present to a doubter as a new puppy is to its master. The desire to scream out to everyone, especially those closest to you is so strong that sometimes you let little hints slip, but nothing more. Why is that? Perhaps you have a loved one who is very religious and knows you have been brought up in a religion that they expect you to follow for the rest of your life. Any thought of deviance to this loved one would be so shocking that you think breaking free would cause them bodily harm. I call this the killing grandma guilt. No one wants to give their poor Catholic grandmother a heart attack or a broken heart when they are supposedly older, wiser and are to be respected, especially if you love them with all your heart. The disapproval in her eyes and facial expression and sadness in her voice would be enough to give the doubter the notion to say, “I’m just kidding grandma. It was a joke.” and run away with their tail between their legs back and back to the proverbial pew.   _Megg
